Firefox Extension Evaluates Web Pages
If you do not have the Firefox browser down it at http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/

You can download an extension for Firefox which allows you to manually check pages for Web accessibility very easily. To download go to http://chrispederick.com/work/webdeveloper/

Once you download it and restart Firefox you can find the Web Developer under the Firefox Tools menu (top menu bar).

Below are images showing some of the menus within the Web Developer. As you can see it can provide you with vast amounts of information. You can select to see one element at a time and the result is often relatively easy to understand.

For example, any images included on a page should have an alt attribute. This is text describing the image or simply stating that there is an image there. This is necessary for applications that read the screen for the visually impaired. To check your section you could go to the Web Developer to Images to Outline Images to Images without Alt Attributes. A red box will appear around any of these images. Then go into the admin for your section and add text to the Alternate text field for your images.
